My Story
Hi my name is Jules. I am a self-taught artist from Sacramento, California. I began my art career in Girdwood, Alaska in 2020. After spending a summer as a whale watching guide in Juneau, AK, I moved to Valdez, AK for a 2-month job on March 1, 2020 not knowing that the world was days away from entering a pandemic. I soon moved to Girdwood where I enjoyed skiing and hiking every day with my dog, Simba. I was alone and unexpectedly in Alaska during the pandemic, which led me to seek art as a way to cope. The humpback whale was my first drawing that I drew while camping in my car in Homer, AK, looking out at Kachemak Bay. I drew with dots because it was what made sense in my mind. The skeleton fairy was my first time using color and gave me access to a door in my brain that I am exploring every day now. I draw whatever I feel like drawing, but I find it is often the music, place, people and the experience that bring meaning to the piece.
